Water Quality Program Update October 2020
FLG to Partner with Equinox Environmental for Ongoing Water Quality Program as of October 1, 2020
This year has had its challenges for all of us, including Friends of Lake Glenville and our ongoing Water Quality Program.
Earlier this year, Western Carolina University informed us that, due to the impact of Covid-19 on staffing and resources, they would not be renewing our agreement to provide water testing, analysis, and reporting services. We would like to thank Dr. Kimberly Hall and WCU for the excellent work they've done over the past three years.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have cancelled our season opener, originally scheduled for May 27, 2020.

UPDATE Regarding 2020 Take a Kid Fishing Tournament
In light of the current situation with COVID-19, and in keeping with guidance provided by the CDC, WHO and local, regional and national leaders, we have made the decision to cancel the Take a Kid Fishing Tournament scheduled for Sunday, April 19, 2020.
At this time, we have every intention of holding the tournament next year during the same time, when we can take advantage of optimal water temperatures and everyone's busy schedules. Please keep an eye out for communications regarding next year's event in the months to come.
As we know, our community, country, and world are experiencing significant disruptions in normal day-to-day activities. Please know that, in the coming days and weeks, FLG continues its mission to be good stewards of the lake, but also to our friends and neighbors, as well. And we look forward to the future when we can all come together again. Please visit our website or Facebook page for updates in the days to come.
Until then, we wish you, your family and your friends health and safety.
Sincerely,
Richard Tyre, President
& the FLG Board
New Water Quality Report Released - Q4 2019
Chemical and microbial analysis of water samples collected at Lake Glenville area sites helps to characterize water quality in relation to potential sources of water pollution. Overall water quality, as evidenced by data collected on December 5, 2019, is acceptable but there is evidence to suggest the influence of soil erosion on nutrient concentrations. Nitrate concentrations increased from September 2019 to December 2019, and orthophosphate and ammonia concentrations decreased in the same time period. Additionally, E. coli concentrations in Pine Creek were observed to be within regulatory standards. The next quarterly monitoring event will take place in February 2020. Results from that monitoring event will be evaluated individually and in relation to the results presented in this report to evaluate temporal changes in water quality and evaluate sources of pollution.
