We were thrilled to participate in Cashiers' annual Christmas Parade for the third year in a row. Under sunny skies, 50 degree temps, and the creative direction of FLG Board member and Parade Chairperson Lesley Howard, our entry also took home the Santa's Sleigh Award!
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, this year's parade theme was A Peppermint Stick Parade. Given our focus on Lake Glenville, we felt it was only appropriate that we use a pontoon boat to decorate...right? Lesley was joined by Parade Committee members Karen Albert, Alex Warren, Pat Strickland, Michelle Barker, and Cheryl Ruderman, and together, the committee came up with the float concept of "Christmas Island." They decorated the pontoon generously loaned to us by Mountaintop Lake Club with a festive mix of peppermint candies, crabs, red and raffa fringe, and presents wrapped in red and white.
The team effort continued when we discovered that one of the tires on the boat trailer was flatter than flat! Our sincerest thanks goes to fellow FLG Board members Patrick Achey, Chris Warren, and Tom Albert and to Scott Newman of Mountain View Marine, who managed to get the pontoon boat to the staging area anyway and with plenty of time to spare! Parade participants in red grass skirts and Santa hats danced to island-themed Christmas music and everyone had a blast.
We're so grateful for this wonderful opportunity to promote FLG and the work we do to preserve and protect Lake Glenville. Winning the Santa's Sleigh Award was just icing on the Christmas cake!
