The Federal Energy Regulation Commission (FERC)’s license to Duke to generate hydroelectric power from Lake Glenville requires a recreation water release from the Glenville Dam on the following timing and flows:
- Release water for six hours per day for one weekend (Saturday and Sunday) per calendar year in April. Target flowrate will be approximately 250 cfs each day and releases made to arrive at the put-in point at 10:00 AM.
- Provide five total weekend day releases per calendar year for six hours per day, scheduled on weekend days in the months of May through September. Target flowrate will be approximately 250 cfs each day and releases made to arrive at the put-in point at 10:00 AM.

Water releases can be viewed from the base of High Falls. This area can be accessed from the Pine Creek Recreation Area or the Cullowhee Falls North Trailhead on Shoal Creek Mountain Road.
