The Friends of Lake Glenville are pleased to announce the 2024 winners of the Friends of Lake Glenville Doug Odell Scholarship.

Friends of Lake Glenville established the Doug Odell Scholarship Program to encourage and support our local community by offering an educational scholarship to graduating high school seniors. Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors in good standing from Blue Ridge Early College (BREC) and Summit Charter School to promote higher education in the field of Science. One scholarship is also awarded to a returning FLG Scholarship Winner to assist in their ongoing education.

Friends of Lake Glenville is an Incorporated Not-For-Profit (501c-3) Organization with a volunteer focus on Water Quality and Testing, Lake Clean-Up, Fishing, and Boating Safety.

Blue Ridge Early College:

Ethan Henson: Ethan has been accepted into Clemson University in Clemson, SC. He is interested in studying Health Science with a long term goal of a career in Athletic Training. He has worked at Old Edwards Club the past two summers as a Recreation Attendant and Youth Camp Counselor. 

Paige McCall: Paige will continue at Southwestern Community College to complete her Associates Degree, and then plans to attend Western Carolina College in the Fall of 2025 to work towards a degree in Child Development. Paige’s personalized FLG essay spoke of her love for Lake Glenville and the importance of protecting our community’s environment. 

Summit Charter School:

Bradley Burnette: Bradley has been accepted into both Clemson University in Clemson, SC and NC State in Raleigh, NC in the School of Engineering. Bradley enjoys Robotics Club, Photography, Soccer, and Skiing.

Kaila Lee: Kaila has been accepted into Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. She plans to major in Biology with a long term goal of attending Dentistry School with a focus in Orthodontics. Kaila is active with Big Brother Big Sister, Interact Club, Volleyball, and Booster Club.

2024 Returning Scholarship Winner:

Holly Foss: As a 2022 BREC Graduate, Holly was accepted into the Fall 2022 class at University of North Carolina Wilmington adn is now in her junior year, working towards a degree in Criminology with a minor in Forensic Science. Holly’s passion is to help others with a career in law enforcement.

 


 

About the Scholarship:

The Scholarship was named in honor of Doug Odell, one of the founding members of Friends of Lake Glenville, who served the organization for many years in various capacities. He was instrumental in shaping Friends of Lake Glenville core mission: to preserve, protect, educate and advocate for the continued beauty, integrity, safety, and survival of Lake Glenville.

Each year, successful applicants will be awarded funds towards a 4-year college or university or a 2-year trade or technical program of their choosing. Previous winners may also be eligible for additional funds pending qualification.

Additionally, we are hoping to create a reserve for the continued success and perpetuity of the fund.
