The Friends of Lake Glenville have some exciting news to share, and I am extremely honored to be involved in this fund! Last year was our first year to launch The Doug Odell Scholarship Fund for graduating seniors from the Blue Ridge Early College school. These funds awarded 2 student applicant winners’ extra money towards their advanced learning at a college of their choice.

About the Scholarship:

The Scholarship is named after Doug Odell, one of the founding members of Friends of Lake Glenville who served the organization for many years in various capacities. He was instrumental in shaping FLG’s core mission: to preserve, protect, educate and advocate for the continued beauty, integrity, safety, and survival of Lake Glenville.

The $1000 scholarship, established to encourage and support our local community, is awarded to a graduating senior in good standing from Blue Ridge Early College (BREC) to promote higher education in the field of Science.

What's New for 2022:

This year we are hopeful to extend the scholarship fund to applicants from the Summit Charter School as well. In 2022, our goal is to award 4 scholarships, 2 from each school. There is an application process and an in-person interview for the final recipients. The Friends of Lake Glenville Board will then select qualified participants and funds are made available to the students through their college bursar office.

We are seeking to raise $30,000 over the next few months. We are awarding each of the 4 students with a $5,000 scholarship. We will also reach out to last year’s winners and, if they meet certain criteria, award them with additional funds towards their 2022 enrollment. We would also like to create a reserve so we can build the fund over the years.
