To Glenville, Cashiers, and surrounding communities:

Weather permitting, the Glenville Community will conduct their 13th Annual Fireworks Shoot on Lake Glenville next Friday evening, July 2, 2010, at about 9:30pm. As in years past, the fireworks will be ignited from The Point at Lake Glenville on the west side of the lake just north of Trillium. Owing to changes in North Carolina State laws, Glenville has engaged East Coast Pyrotechnics to conduct the Shoot. As a result, this will mark the first time that performance-grade Class “B” (1.3G) fireworks will be incorporated into the show. The 3″ mortars to be used in the show will rise 300′ versus the 175′ rise from the previously used Class C mortars. The venue has been inspected and approved by the Jackson County Fire Marshall, and a fire truck will be on site during the program.
Land-based spectators typically park at the Hamburg Baptist Church and view the Shoot from the shoreline on the East side of the lake. The Shoot will commence at 9:30 PM and last about 15 minutes. Organizers will attempt to conduct a music program to precede and accompany the fireworks program. In the interest of spectator safety, boats should remain 150’ from the shore during show set-up and ignition. Land-based spectators should remain 300’ from the shoot site. Remember that a new North Carolina law is in effect requiring boat operators under the age of 26 to hold an safe boating permit.
The fireworks program has been made possible by a profound, cohesive effort put forth by Lake Glenville clubs, organizations, and businesses as well as individual Glenville residents. We invite everyone to come to the Lake next Friday evening to celebrate the best traditions of our Country and Community. In addition to the sponsors and financial supporters of the event, it would not have happened without the tireless efforts of Stuart Hall. The community owes a big “Thank you” to him and his Glenville Lake Navy who put on the first 12 shows.
